Case of Beau Constantia Lucca Merlot/Cabernet Franc
The Cabernet Sauvignon provides a strong framework to dangling Cabernet Franc florae and serves as the perfect vehicle for this individual vintage’s characteristics that allowed for the late budding and -ripening Cabernet Sauvignon to express valued blackcurrant; not often achieved in our climate.
Matured for 18 months in 80% new French oak barriques, this diligent blend entices the senses with notes of violet, fennel seed and graphite before plunging into a palate dark and dense with prolific layers of polymerized tannins that demand great focus to unwrap. When achieved, a fine balance between earthy salinity and fresh acidity provide an undeniable tension that begs for a deeper exploration into the infinite depths of this effort.
53% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Franc and, for the first time, Cabernet Sauvignon at 10%.
