Case of Waterford Old Vine Project Chenin Blanc
Our Chenin blanc grapes are sourced from old vines in Stellenbosch, planted in 1966. The wine is certified and part of the Old Vine Project which aims to preserve older, less productive vines by showcasing the quality of wines they can produce. Berry bunches are hand-harvested and pressed directly to concrete eggs for natural fermentation. This allows the wine to remain vibrant and truly express its distinctiveness. Extended less contact adds luxuriousness, by adding texture and mouthfeel.
TASTING NOTE
The colour has a lovely soft yellow-green hue. The main
aromas are white pear and pithy grapefruit, followed by
elements of peach pip, light honeycomb and soft floral notes.
The mouth-feel is layered and smooth but holds a tremendous
amount of mineral flavour and depth. The concrete egg
fermentation drives purity and minerality which creates a
lovely fresh and soft “sweet fruit” finish on the palate.
