Jean Daneel
Jean and Renee Daneel settled into the quiet but quaint country town of Napier en route to the well-known Arniston, Struisbaai and L’Agulhas in 2004. First, they established their wine farm and boutique winery which their eldest son, Jean-Pierre, heads as winemaker now.
Jean Daneel Wines, also known as JD Wines, is the brainchild of Jean Daneel, a well-respected wine maker in South Africa. He started his career in South Africa in the early 1980s in Constantia, after coming back from Germany where he completed many harvests and studied at the renowned wine academy, Weinsberg.
Jean-Pierre, his eldest son, followed Jean's footsteps after high school and lived in Germany for many years, also attending Weinsberg, where he completed numerous harvests, and worked in -10 degrees Celsius pruning vineyards. He came back to sunny South Africa with many great new ideas, methods and techniques to apply in the family owned and run wine cellar that is Jean Daneel Wines.
JD Wines, is well-known for their wooded Chenin Blanc, which is a constant 5-star John platter award winner. In 2003 the Chenin Blanc was voted one of the best 100 Chenin Blancs in the world. To this day they still maintain the same secret method that makes the wine such a fantastic success all over the world.
